Pileated Woodpecker Chicks

A print of this shot was recently requested from my web site richardburbidge.myportfolio.com: I thought it looked OK on the 8X10 so I decided to look back on its history:

The original shot was taken in June 2015, my first year of learning and using a long lens (Tamron 150-600). The image was captured using AP at a distance of 37 meters (from Jeffrey Friedl's Metadata Viewer: regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-viewer). Today all my bird shots are shot in Manual Mode. I looked back at my 2015 Flickr posting and wasn't impressed. There has been a learning curve over the years, both cameras and software. The image posted here was cleaned up in Topaz AI Clear and it made a tremendous difference (albeit with chromatic aberration). Subtle adjustments were also subsequently made in Lightroom.

I didn't realize how fortunate I was back in 2015 capturing this image. I thought Birding was a piece of cake. I've yet to encounter another such opportunity.

Oh, and by the way, I got many close shots of a Red-tailed Hawk eyeing these chicks. What a day!
