You're walking along looking for things to point the camera at when suddenly as if out nowhere, a ginormous flock of birds explodes from the earth. You're startled, but still have the presence of mind to point the camera skyward and begin firing away. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. But regardless of the outcome, you're still left with the heart pounding exhilaration of having witnessed a collective mind in action--it's a true miracle of nature.
