Noelle: Website Profile Image
Noelle created a website to sell jewelry that she's been making. I helped out by creating product images for her website. After looking over the website, we agreed she needed a profile shot, too.
My original idea was to have her stand in front of the fence bordering my yard. However, when I asked her if she had any ideas for the backdrop, she suggested Ensor Park. So, we took a short drive Ensor Park and set up in a familiar spot. I decided against using monolights for this shoot because:
1) I knew there would be a bit of a walk to the actual location, and monolights, battery packs, heavy duty lightstands, etc, aren't necessarily light.
2) We wouldn't need the additional power the monolights would give us because the area was almost entirely shaded (and there was a good bit of cloud cover, too).
Therefore, we packed [relatively] light with my shoe-mount flash kit, light-duty light stand bag (with umbrellas inside), and a camera bag.
The shoot produced exactly what she needed.
strobist: 1 Quantaray shoe-mount flash, above camera, 1/4 CTO gelled, diffused by a white umbrella. 1 Quantaray shoe-mount flash, below camera, diffused by a white umbrella (clamshell lighting), 1 Canon 580EX, camera left (behind subject), 1/4 CTO gelled, reflected into a silver umbrella and used to create separation light on the background. Flashes triggered via Cybersyncs.
