"The First Noble Truth is the existence of suffering.

 

Birth, old age, illness and death are suffering.

Sadness, anger, envy, fear, anxiety and despair are suffering.

The absence of what we love is suffering.

The presence of what we hate is suffering.

Desire is suffering. Aversion is suffering.

 

This is the First Noble Truth."
