Synchronicity : George J. Clark : A Synchronize Experience

Earlier today, (12/21/09), during this Christmas break from teaching at Florida A&M University, I had the opportunity to catch up on my readings in an ongoing research project that I was doing. One of the books that I been reading earlier today was "Through the Eyes of Science, Myth, and the Trickster: Synchronicity" by Allan Combs and Mark Holland, New York: Marlowe & Company, 1996.

Later that evening, there was a knock on my front door. It was a door to door salesman selling snack items to raise money for a youth organization. At first, without opening my door, I stated that I was not interested. Then for some reason, I did open the door and explained that I was sorry, but I wasn't interested in buying any of his items.

During his introductory sales pitch he introduced himself and said that his name was George Clark. I immediately became suspicious and asked him for his ID. He showed me a picture ID and it stated that his name was George J. Clark from Jacksonville Florida. I started asking him questions about why he was in my neighborhood, why did he come to this particular house, if he knew me or had ever seen me before; to which he answered no to all my questions. He seem to become nervous and uneasy with my questioning; so I then told him that my name was also George Clark. I wish that I would have had my camera at that point because besides almost losing his balance on my porch, the expression on his face was priceless.

I asked him if he has ever heard of the concept of synchronicity and explained it to him when he told me that he hadn't. I also told him about my research project on synchronicity and the fact that I had been reading a book on the subject earlier that day.

I asked him if I could take his picture to document this experience and this is the result.

So I will end with one of my hakus:

So, who is George Clark,

is George Clark really George Clark?

Synchronicity.
