Custom Trapdoor Spider Terrarium

This is a custom designed educational display for a Trapdoor Spider. The grey insert on the inside is an area that completely sections off the front and top of the cage. Making it in a sense “hollow” so that the spider is forced to burrow against the glass where it will be able to be observed. By tweaking the dimensions a bit, this concept could be used to house deep burrowing tarantula species as well...

The square vents in the front side corners are for maintenance of humidity. The entire tank can be sat in a few inches of water and the substrate can be allowed to soak for a brief period. Adding water to a burrowing spider cage from the bottom rather than from the top is a proven method used by very successful German breeders keeping deep burrowing tarantulas. There is no worry in drowning the spider whatsoever, as they have been observed staying submerged for long periods of time or will simply just flee the water temporarily.

The idea is going to be made reality by Jason Perillo of Protean Terrarium Design.
