Red Dawn

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022 at 04:48am.

With almost 1 hour to go before the sun rises, the sky was like this.

I confess that I have been to Mirante Dona Marta countless times but I had never witnessed anything of this caliber.

During the dawn of the 15/01/2022, the eruption of the submarine volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai, in the Tonga archipelago, in Oceania, was recorded. The force was such that it surpassed that of an atomic bomb, detonating a devastating tsunami.

The plumes from the explosion “traveled” 13,000 kilometers across the South Pacific, reaching southeastern Brazil.

The phenomenon happens because the ash, thrown into the upper layers of the atmosphere, has particles that, when illuminated by the sun, give the sky a reddish pinkish hue.

Happy 457th birthday to my city of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro!
