Our first Asian Elephants (in the wild)
(Elephas maximus) 131A2094 Jim Corbett's National Park - Uttarakhand - India
Because Elephants have been mistreated by humans for a long time, the Elephants in Jim Corbett's National Park are very aggressive and vehicles have to back up when an Elephant is on the road.
Since 1986, the Asian elephant has been listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, as the population has declined by at least 50 per cent over the last three elephant generations, which is about 60–75 years. It is primarily threatened by loss of habitat, habitat degradation, fragmentation and poaching.
