Former Pioneer Trust & Savings Bank

The Pioneer State Bank was founded in 1914. Ten years later, it absorbed the Scheubert & Amberg State Bank and the new institution was renamed the Pioneer Trust & Savings Bank. After the merger, Pioneer planned a new bank building on the site of their earlier building at 4000 W. North Ave. Chicago architect and specialist in bank architecture Karl M. Vitzthum designed the bank, which was completed in 1925.

The bank changed its name to Pioneer Bank & Trust Company in 1975 and merged with Banco Popular in 1996. Banco Popular moved across the street in 2008. The city is working on plans to redevelop the bulding.
