A Very Purple Quahog
September 22, 2021
We have been getting a lot of quahogs (Mercenaria mercenaria) from the town grant. This one is about the size of my fist. They are plump and tasty - great for chowder or stuffing. The shells this season have a lot of purple in them. Shells like this one were used by Native Americans to make wampum, which was used as currency in colonial times.
