First Encounter, Painted Sky

January 31, 2016

As January came to a close, I found myself on First Encounter Beach, in Eastham, Massachusetts (Cape Cod). The sun dipped non-ceremoniously behind a layer of clouds on the horizon, and a soft pink-orange glow filtered across the waves. The dome of the sky was deep blue, and filled with the blown-out contrails of leaving and returning transatlantic jets. Some heavy horizon clouds and a few lingering high cirrus clouds completed this beautiful Nature's canvas.

First Encounter Beach is so named because it is where the Pilgrims first "encountered" Native Americans. It was not a peaceful meeting. Muskets were shot, and arrows were fired.
