New needles - Metasequoia - Serra
The Metasequoia (Dawn Redwood) is a deciduous conifer which was first identified as a fossil. Thought to be extinct, they were discovered to be alive in China in the early 40's.
Botanists have since propogated Metasequoias in many parts of the world. This one is in the NE corner of the Valley Precinct of the of the park.
