De Cam Oude Lambiek

A bottle of Oude Lambiek from Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, Belgium, at Trollekelder in Ghent.

De Cam Oude Lambiek is a 5% abv unblended, old lambic bottled in January 2009. By "oude lambiek", De Cam master blender, Karel Goddeau, refers to lambic which has been aged in oak barrels for three years - making the beer in this bottle more than seven years old when I had it in April 2013!

The beer poured a deep golden color with no head to speak of. It smelled of unripe, sour fruits, typically green apples with notes of lemon. Mouthfeel had a nice acidic sting to it but was otherwise flat, with no carbonation. The flavor started out with a good fruity sourness, again lemon and green apples, but turning milder in the middle of the taste before ending with a woody, slightly tannic, bitterness.

For such an old beer, De Cam Oude Lambiek is still fruity and nicely sour with an excellent flavor profile. Well done!
