BrewDog Atlantic IPA

A bottle of Atlantic IPA Ale from BrewDog in Fraserburgh, Scotland, at The Rake, London.

According to BrewDog, the Atlantic IPA Ale is an 8,5% abv India Pale Ale that:

survived two months on the North Atlantic, involving a tense barrel-rescue-mission, beatings from force ten storms, 60 foot waves and encounters with killer whales. Upon safe return to dry land, the IPA was bottle conditioned.

The Atlantic IPA poured a light ruby red color with a big white head. A wonderful fruity aroma with notes of oak and even a little caramel. Mouthfeel was big, this is a rich IPA, with a nice carbonation from the bottle conditioning. Flavor starts out with sweet maltiness and some, almost barley wine like, grainy notes. Then the bitter hops kicks in to balance the rich malt. The oak was less noticeable in the taste than the aroma. A nice hoppy bitter aftertaste. All in all a very good IPA, though I think the great aroma promised more than the brew managed to deliver.
