What I love about self-portraiture is becoming part of something bigger than yourself. I love disconnecting from who I am or who I've been and seeing myself differently, through the eyes of another, through the eyes of someone I don't know. To transform oneself; to see yourself as character who experiences life individually; to be who you want to be or to be someone else entirely. This is the magic of creating with yourself, for yourself, by yourself. This is why I create.

Ever since I moved to a small town nearly 3 years ago I have only photographed models on rare occasions, usually when I travel and every few months near my town. "Why?" people are always asking. Why not use other people? Why do you love photographing yourself? Sometimes they say it like it should be shameful, other times curious, and sometimes envious. It is a privilege to be able to work by yourself, at least in my eyes. I love being alone. I love having the time to think and not having pressure to create for anyone else or to please anyone else.

So for the time being I'll continue to take self-portraits, and hope that I will have the courage to keep going long into the future.
