Matriarch of the herd

Leading female Elephant in Chobe, Botswana, Africa.

This was the only time we felt uncomfortable on a game drive. All other drives were very respectful of the animals, kept their distance and through radio contact took turns at singularly approaching the animals. This was different. We found ourselves corralled by 5 vehicles with no way of exiting. The vehicles also cornered this matriarch and her herd. Here she stands rocking back and forth before turning and leading her herd back through dense shrubbery away from us. When we go on another game drive I will pre-check the drivers' protocols and safety procedures to protect both the wildlife and the tourists.
