98. 2016 - “Lazarus”: Button Eyes
Throughout 2015, Bowie wrote and produced Lazarus, a musical sequel to The Man who Fell to Earth. Michael C. Hall starred as Thomas Jerome Newton, the role Bowie himself had played almost 40 years before. Around the debut, Hall performed “Lazarus” as Bowie on The Late Show. The title song would later go on to be included in Bowie’s next album Blackstar, and was the second song to be made into a music video for the album. Button Eyes, the character Bowie played in the “Blackstar” video, now appeared bedridden in a hospital.

I had some trouble committing to a concept on this one. Initially, it felt like including the entire bed would be too bulky, but it doesn’t really work without it, so it was necessary.
