All you had to do was spray

I woke up 10 minutes before my 5:45AM alarm yesterday morning, already high with anticipation. I was purposefully avoiding work and responsibility for the day to go adventure. My only goal was to see some autumn colors in the Columbia River Gorge. I find myself constantly in the habit of trying to cram too many stops or destinations in and being unable to really soak in where I am and what I'm doing. Having no itinerary or schedule can do wonders for clearing that issue right up.
I spent about an hour and a half roaming around in front of the thundering Wahclella Falls in the Gorge. It's my favorite waterfall in the Gorge, for it's easy access and saturated colors, its moss covered face and turquoise splash pool. After some torrential rains this past weekend, all of the waterfalls were set to maximum flow. The sound and the spray coming off of Wahclella was enough to make you stumble back if you approached it too closely. The splash pool and stream flowing from it were higher than I've seen them. Not that I'm complaining, we desperately need all the rain we can get.
I spent 20 or so minutes setting up and testing out this shot. Got quite a few laughs from other hikers as I would set the 10 second timer and run the 30 or 40 feet around a tree and jump up on this rock just in time for the shutter to close. Only to run back and check the results.
