enlighten I
While I was in this tunnel taking a few shots, a kid walked up and stood in the doorway. Her friends were outside the door, too afraid to come inside, but bold enough to taunt her. "Are you scared?", they asked, words echoing off the walls. "NO! I'm NOT scared!", she shouted back, her posture defiant. She couldn't see me because of the deep shadows, but as she said those words, she was practically frozen in her tracks - so much so that I managed a full 10 second exposure for this shot. After my exposure finished, I announced myself, walked outside to say hello, and ended up letting her and her friends take a few photos with my camera as I made small talk with her mom.
By the time I packed up to leave, they were all fascinated with the idea of making pictures, saying they wanted a camera of their own. It made me wonder if one of those kids might follow through on learning more about photography, but it also made me wonder what might have been different for me if I'd discovered and pursued a love for it at an early age. I guess the point is, you never know what kids might become someday; you just have to give them options...
