A Fresnel or catadioptric lens reflects and refracts the light into a narrow beam

Modern lenses are much smaller and lighter (although far less aesthetic) than Augustin-Jean Fresnel's original mulit-element design. The above lens is one of 4 that produce the characteristic flash sequence for the Nash Point Lighthouse.
