Tunnel Tiles
the tiles said they
considered it a hidden blessing
to be here in the tunnel.
the tiles liked it in the dark;
where no one was watching.
in the tunnel,
they could learn french without
feeling silly about pronouncing
the words incorrectly.
they could slouch without
anyone telling them
to stand up straight.
they could cough
the car fumes right back into the
air with no one casting
an annoyed stare
at their lack of
environmental consciousness.
plus,
they said,
the tax assessments done on
residential property
located in tunnels
were extremely soft on their wallets.
