Breakthrough's event, "Why Can't America Have Human Rights?"
Breakthrough: building human rights culture and Mission and Social Justice of The Riverside Church hosted: Why Can’t America Have Human Rights?
Breakthrough's public forum, held at the historic Riverside Church in New York City attracted 600 people. The event, co-sponsored by 70 organizations; brought students, leaders, and community members together to hear the answers to the question, "Why Can't America Have Human Rights?"
Speakers and artists in attendance included Larry Cox from Amnesty International USA, Mary Beth Maxwell of American Rights at Work, and the song and poetry of Blackout Arts Collective. Though diverse, the speakers were united in their platform-- the United States must take a stand against abuses and create a much needed human rights movement in our country.
