Sarah Siddons
Approaching Chorleywood, northbound
Electric Locomotive No. 12, Sarah Siddons. Built in 1922/3 by Metropolitan Vickers in Manchester. Replaced older 1905 Locomotives and in 1925 following the electrification of the Metropolitan Railway to Rickmansworth hauled services between there and Baker Street. Northbound Aylesbury services completed the journey from Rickmansworth under steam haulage.
These electric locomotives were used through to Chesham for a short while, but were all withdrawn from passenger work in 1961, following deliveries of A60/A62 Stock.
The only other surviving specimen is No. 5 'John Hampden,', restored to a static condition and exhibited in the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden.
