2024.12.12.3573 Rehobot Mennonite Church

A church on a hill overlooking Schuyler, Va., on the line between Albemarle and Nelson counties, basically in the middle of nowhere. Schuyler is the hometown of the Hamner family, whose most famous son, Earl Jr., spent a lifetime in Hollywood writing "Spencer's Mountain" (with Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara) for the screen a a couple of hundred episodes of "The Waltons" for TV in the '70s. But more about that church: A sign by the road identified it as the Rehobot Mennonite Church, and we weren't sure it it's even occupied now, but it seemed to have a different origin. Episcopal? Presbyterian? More research is necessary. Further note: Some online research reveals that this once was Christ Episcopal Church, taken over by the Mennonites in the 1980s. It does appear to be abandoned now, but at least as recently as 2020 it was in use. ©2024 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1.com
