Bölkow Bo-209C Monsun 160RV | D-EIFL
Another good looking lighty enjoying the autumn sun (with summer-like temperatures) on the GA apron at Split (SPU/LDSP). While it cannot boast impressive performance - despite the 160 HP in the nose - nor an interesting back story, the Monsun nevertheless attracts attention with its rarity, only 102 examples having ever been produced. Bölkow's last own design, the Bo-209 owes its status to the company's absorption into the Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm (MBB) group, which had soon decided that light aircraft manufacture does not fit into its business plans...
Interestingly, early Monsuns had a retractable nose wheel and folding wings, often omitted on later examples to simplify production.
