New work, old theme

Modern sculpture recently installed at St Aidan's college, on Windmill Hill overlooking Durham.

It's evidently a metal cast of a hewn wooden original. In the middle of the broken circle at the top you can make out a bearded face with "CUTHBERT" incised above. Below there are figures of angels plus various celtic-looking patterns.

So far there's no plaque, but the style leads at once to Fenwick Lawson (info) ..... and indeed it turns out to be a version of his 2001 piece "Wheel Cross" in the Gospel Garden, Lindisfarne.
