Gloster Gladiator

Don't be fooled by the metallic paint, the Gladiator is mostly made of wood, covered with doped linen.

Entering service with the RAF in 1937, the same year as both the Spitfire and Hurricane, the Gladiator was already hopelessly outclassed as a fighter plane. The last biplane fighter to enter service, it was the first RAF plane with a fully enclosed cockpit and also had landing flaps. Seen here in flight over Old Warden.
