Spitfire - evening flight.
This was at the June 2024 Sywell Air Show. Remember summer? It feels so long ago!
After the main airshow had finished, at about 6.30pm, this Spitfire soared into the clear blue sky and gave us a breathtaking display of agility.
This Spitfire is a Mk Vc, serial EE602, a genuine survivor of WW2, dating from 1942. The legend on the side tells us that its construction was sponsored by a group of ex-pats working in South America.
The paintwork and markings are those of the post Battle of Britain era; note the 'dark sea grey' camouflage replacing the 'earth dark brown' of the earlier scheme. The light band just forward of the tail and the yellow leading edges of the wings were added to the red, white and blue roundels to aid rapid visual 'friend or foe' identification. This could literally be a matter of life or death in a combat situation.
