Van Hoevenberg View

This is the view from the ledges on the south face of Mt Van Hoevenberg. The high peak is Algonquin, NY's second highest peak, and the small peak at mid-right is Mt Jo.

Henry Van Hoevenberg was a self-taught electrical engineer who sought refuge from New York City lung problems in the Adirondacks. Mt Jo was named after Josephine Schofield, his fiancée, who died shortly before they were to be married. Henry Van Hoevenberg built the original Adirondack Lodge (later changed to the phonetic 'Loj').

If you are a fan of winter sports, the north slope of Mt Van Hoevenberg is the site of the Lake Placid Olympic bobsled run.

Brutal morning though ... high winds and near freezing temperatures. Click for the HiRez goodness...
