Whistling Swans, Trent River, Glen Ross, Ontario, Jan. 26, 2013_8174

Now this is unusual. Since I moved here in 2003, I have never seen Whistling ("Tundra") Swans this far north in January. Last year they were early in late February, early March. They winter in Virginia and North Carolina and summer and breed along the north coast of Canada and the Arctic Archipelago. I counted four of which I was able to photograph two. They are very wild and will not permit humans to approach closely. Why are they here so soon? Do they know something about global warming that we don't?
