Peterborough Lift Lock 2
At 19.8 m (65 ft) lift, these are the largest hydraulic lift locks in the world. They are powered only by gravity. The caissons rest on hydraulic rams. The top caisson is filled with slightly more water and the weight imbalance causes it to descend and push the ram under the other caisson causing it to rise. Locks have been in continuous service since 1904.
