I think that the blue color and bass combines a lot. The silhouette of the woman gives to the photo the feeling of a musician from darkness (she plays bass by the way, so, it´s a model who feels secure and comfortable with the object that she is posing with, and that helps a lot).
Tips to silhouette photos:
#1 - A strong SPOT light, please
#2 - Put the light behind the person, pointed to the wall
#3 - Clear wall color, better contrast
#4 - Use a closed aperture to get all the details of possible hairs escaping
#5 - Don't use the photometer, just SHOOT, a LOT, with your sense.
#6 - Use tripod in the first shots, after them, try to shoot whitout
#7 - Use ISO400 if you don't have a tripod, this photo has a 1/20 speed, so it's a little slow. I used a tripod on it, if I didn't have, i would use ISO800 and 1/40 or 1/60
#8 - If you don't have a macro lens, try to get closer the person
#9 - Your autofocus probably won't work well because the area that you're trying to focus has low light and the autofocus needs light to know where the focus is (make sense). So you have to do the following:
#9.1 - Use a lantern in the face of the person, get the focus, turn off the lantern and shoot
#9.2 - Try to focus with AF, when focused, don't move the position of the camera (a tripod would help) and pass it to MF ;)
The objective is to maintain only the wall lightened.
A music to relax :)
Blue On Black,
by Kenny Wayne Shepherd
(just the chorus)
Blue on black,
tears on a river
Push on a shove,
it don't mean much
Whisper on a scream,
doesn't change a thing
Don't bring you back
Blue on black
P/Nat:
