Cotswold Custom "Fuzzhead" Black Land Adventurer

Another figure I wanted to put together was this "Black Land Adventurer" using a flocked Cotswold "Ed" head.

In the 60's, Hasbro produced a "negro" version of the standard GI Joe. When I first learned about this I was a little horrified that all they did at the time was cast the same toy in a different color of plastic, since it seemed almost like putting Joe in blackface. Generally, I much prefer the more uniquely African American head sculpt used on the Adventure Team figures in the 70's.

However, I must admit that they look pretty cool when flocked, so cool in fact, that I wanted one! I think it also appeals to me because it's like looking into some strange alternate universe where instead of developing the AA heads used on the 70's AT figures, Hasbro had just flocked their existing African American figures.

Since I plan to buy two of the "Man Of Evil" uniform sets so I can make my own "Henchman" figure, it will leave me with an extra yellow and black AT jacket. I'll probably put it on this figure along with the jackboots. For the time being he's wearing a Hasbro Indiana Jones jacket and some rather funky white tall boots that came with my reproduction Talking Astronaut.

Maybe he's a young version of Ultimate Nick Fury?
