Decepticreep
Red Bumblebee robot mode
I have a love/hate affair with this toy. When I was a kid, the only Bumblebee toy I had was the red one. While it was a fun little toy in and of itself, It always annoyed me because it looked nothing like what Bumblebee looked like on the tv show. Of course, the yellow version wasn't much better, but at least it was the right color! I was also confused as to why he came in 2 different colors when the cartoon and comic only ever showed him in one color. My explanation for it was that since Bumblebee is a spy, he could alter his color to elude capture. So if human authorities or Decepticons were chasing him he would change color once he was out of their view and lose them this way. I used to rationalize the fact that Bumblebee's face looked nothing like his cartoon/comic apprearance by thinking of him having armor plates that came out of his helmet and covered his face in battle - an idea which has since become official in that the 2007 movie Bumblebee has a retractable faceplate and the one from Transformers: Animated has one that even looks like the G1 toy's face. Perhaps this explanation can be used to explain all the minibots with faces that look nothing like their TV/comic appearance?
