Mark Morganelli - BC31
BC31
Mark is a jazz musician and concert producer. Mark started producing concerts in New York City in 1979 in his first Jazz Forum loft. By the time the second Jazz Forum loft closed its doors in April 1983, recordings, videos, films and radio broadcasts had documented performances by Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Woody Shaw, Red Rodney, Carmen McRae, Barry Harris, Philly Joe Jones and Max Roach. After moving to our town 17 years ago, he has continued to produce concert events in numerous venues around the region.
Besides his own talents and accomplishments as a a trumpeter and flugelhornist, what I think makes Mark exceptional is his devotion to bringing music to the masses. To that end, he has been producing free concerts for 26 years including the last 12 years at the waterfront park in our town. This year alone, Mark will put on 28 free concerts across six different venues in Westchester, NY and Connecticut.
I shot this at Mark’s house where I wanted to capture the view through his window as a tribute to the outdoor music he brings to all. Mark is always ready to play, thus the horn in hand - and I can’t help to think that this space has seen more great music played than many clubs.
Strobist
Canon 7D, 46mm, f8.0, 1.250, ISO200
Canon 580EXII @ ½ shoot through umbrella just in front and above Mark.
Canon 430EXII @ ⅛ w/ ⅛” grid camera right shot through piano at face
