Zircons, UVc fluorescence
A selection of cut and rough zircons imaged under UVc (254nm) light. The larger rough stone, left of centre in the back row, was similar in both white light and fluorescent colour to the golden rough stone to the right of centre. After heating at 950°C for 8 hours, it lost the strong yellow fluorescence.
This image has been intensity fused from 4 different exposures and shows a compressed brightness range. The yellow fluorescing rough stone is considerable brighter than the others.
