During the Jazz Age:
After returning home from a classical music performance where she played piano, Maisie has fallen asleep on the sofa, her cat beside her. Her exhaustion is the result of the fact that she gets worked up into a nearly obsessive state as she prepares for any performance, having to remind herself even to eat.
"I want to be the absolute best," Maisie often thinks, "And to break barriers between classical and Jazz. I must work tirelessly...Though sometimes, I think I may go mad strictly from caring so much..."
Better pace yourself, Maisie, before the shadows envelop your mind. Or you may revert to being the driven, unhinged girl you once were. And that would be unfortunate, to say the least, not only for you but for those who love you...
Not to mention all of those innocent strangers, blissfully unaware of the violent urges that sometimes plagued you--before your hospitalization...
