Northern Water Snake DSC_0359

Found this guy sunning along the trail at the bottom of High Falls. He didn't mind the people walking past but got a little anxious when I stopped and leaned in for a few shots. Eventually he slipped into the water and went on his way.

Prior to now I was unsure how to distinguish a Northern Water Snake from a Banded Water Snake. After studying this photo I think I have it.
