This is the same snake I found climbing my garage wall. I relocated the little guy to a ledge on my fence, from which he promptly fell, hence the dirt on his face. Would have brushed it off for the picture but he was pretty irritated by this time.
Several states list the pine snake as threatened. The pine snake and hognose snake are the only two snakes native to South Carolina that hiss.
