Making a Ball of Light - Part 1
I MUST GO HERE!
Ok. I have decided that the hibernation has lasted long enough.
I am constantly asked about how I create the Ball of Light images. Obviously any one who spends any time here on Flickr knows that making an Orb is relaitively easy. What light source do I use? What camera settings do I use? How do I get the background so bright?
These are daily questions I get. BUT, making a Ball of Light image is about SO much more than those things.
Firstly it is about the moment for me mainly. Getting away from the city. Exploring new places. Learning about stuff!
SO, I have decided to make a diary of a trip and shoot. From concept through planning, traveling and executing the shoot.
I hope that this exersize will help anyone wanting to shoot like this get out and do it. Along the way you might pick up a few pointers. But mostly you will see the amount of work that goes into the basic stuff.
The type of LED's i use are so irrelevant to the final product it is crazy, and I hope to show that this is the case. However, watch closely and I am sure some valuable technical stuff will be gained.
SO the first thing is a concept. I saw the photo above by chance, and was immediately drawn to it. I realised pretty quickly that it is in Australia, and decided that I dodnt care where it was, I was going to get there. It looked interesting. It looked colourful and most of all it looked unique. All things I think about when planning a location.
I hope you enjoy this project, and most importantly I hope that you gain something for your own work. And are encouraged to make the most of what we are given.
