last light (view 1)

Light on the Aramoana mole/breakwater and Taiaroa head from Heyward hill.

Partly because I was detained by a band of fantails, this walk to Heyward point took longer than expected ;-) Tho it did mean we got to see the last of the golden light.

The harbour (Otago) stretches 22km back to Dunedin city.

On average it is 2.3km wide.

The mole itself is 1200 metres long.

It starts at the beginning of the Aramoana Spit.

The channel for ships is quite narrow here and the spit/headland/mole make great places to view vessels arriving or leaving the harbour (small boats to cruise ship highrises).
