i was sent a soil sample from the sagamihara area, west tokio, 250 kilometers away from the fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant. the 50 gram sample reads over a kilobecquerel (>1000 decays per second) of the synthetic radioactive isotopes caesium-137 (half life: 30 years) and caesium-134 (half life: 2 years).
