Crete - ancient olive tree / Kreta alter Olivenbaum
Ancient olive tree near kavousi. Monument of a olive tree close to Kavousi (northern crete). This olive-tree has been classed as monumental by the Association of Cretan Olive Municipalities (SEDIK) due to the large size of its trunk, and due to its vicinity to the ancient settlements of "Vrontas", "Kastro", and "Azoria" of the Late Minoan IIIC and down to the Archaic phase (1350-500 BC) where several artifacts related to olive oil have been uncovered.

Denkmalgeschützter Olivenbaum in der Nähe von Kavousi im Norden von Kreta. Das Alter des Olivenbaums wird auf 3200 Jahre geschätzt und ist somit vermutlich einer der älteste Olivenbäume der Welt. Der Baum hat ein geschätztes Alter von über 3000 Jahren und einen Umfang von ca. 15 Meter. Aus den Zweigen wurden die Siegerkränze für die Marathonläufer bei den Olympischen Spielen 2004 in Athen gefertigt.
