Jefferson Memorial (Washington DC)

The memorial was built by John McShain between 1939 and 1943, with the bronze statue coming in later in 1947, to honor one of the United States' founding fathers, author of the American Declaration of Independence, and its third president. The design was based on the Roman Pantheon and the Rotunda at the University of Virginia that was designed by Thomas Jefferson himself. Taken in 2008 with a Nikon D40 while attending the US International Visitors' Program. Blogged at ’Merika in "shooting Churches, Eating Noodles".
