Number 50, relaxing in the garden
This is my 50th successful monarch butterfly release this summer. He eclosed this morning and after his wings had hardened off, I took him out to the lantana to soak up the sun and contemplate the next phase of his life.
This handsome male was raised from a small second instar found on my milkweed. He was very pale colored with almost no green or black markings when I found him, so he was raised in isolation just in case there was something wrong. Obviously, nothing wrong with this guy and he is ready to head south. Safe travels, #50!
