canvas stretcher
Artist wife wanted to paint raw canvas *before* it was mounted to wood stretcher bars. Her technique involves using fluid acrylic paints and a flowing water color painting style. She was wanting the painted surface to flow around the edges, and that's impossible to do unless the full canvas surface is in the "flow plane". So this jig was built.
A piece of raw canvas is cut to size (using a special piece of masonite as a template) from a roll, clamped using the aluminum strips with the holes, then that assembly is tensioned to the outer frame. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
