Albuquerque Volcanoes Panorama
The two small hills on either end of this panorama are volcanic cinder cones, located on the west side of the valley in which Albuquerque, NM, is located. They are the two southernmost members of a north-south line of four cinder cones, which are visible from most parts of the city. This area is near the center of the Rio Grande Rift, which has a large number of volcanoes. In fact, there are about 200 volcanoes within about sixty miles of Albuquerque. At least one of those has erupted during the last 600 years or so, so no one can say that they are truly extinct. View it large.
