Pileated Woodpecker Chick
While walking around Elm Lake at Brazos Bend State Park, I saw this guy pointing his Nikon D3S with a 600 mm lens at a tree opposite the lake. I had seen him earlier at 40 Acre Lake and asked him what he was after. He said he had his lens trained on a pileated woodpecker nest. I watched for a while, and sure enough, a chick stuck its head out of the nest with its mouth open, evidently hoping Mom would return soon with something to eat.
