The Cash Jar
When med students hear their name called on match day, they come to the stage, learn their match, read it aloud to the crowd, and put a dollar in this jar. The last person to learn their match receives all the money in the jar. The UTHSCSA med school class of 2012 numbered around 240, which meant that the final student received around $240. Other students, drawn at random, received other gifts. Unfortunately, our son-in-law, Cal Dickerson, didn't receive any of those, but he match at his first choice, Dartmouth. That made him happy enough.
