Barbara III
The Grumman TBF was developed as a replacement for the U.S. Navy's Douglas TBD torpedo bomber, which was already obsolescent by the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Navy designated the General Motors-built version of this plane the TBM.
George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the U.S., flew a TBM during World War II and named it Barbara III, after his wife. This one is painted to look like his plane.
The TBF/TBM was the largest single-engine airplane to have fought in World War II and is generally considered the best torpedo bomber of the war.
